Program Overview
The aim of the Leadership Accreditation program is to help forestry firms meet their due diligence obligations by building the leadership skills and health and safety knowledge of supervisors, managers and workers who carry out supervisory or health and safety functions.

The Leadership Accreditation Program consists of two phases: the Performance Management phase and the Occupational Health and Safety phase. To achieve accreditation, candidates must complete both phases of the program.

Performance Management Phase
The six one-day courses in the Performance Management phase of the program were developed and are delivered by Gary Phillips, CRSP, principal trainer and consultant with Northwest Training & Development. These six courses cover a broad range of supervisory skills and knowledge.

The six required courses in the Performance Management phase of the program are:
  • Leadership Roles & Styles – the four main styles of leadership and how to apply the appropriate style to specific individuals and situations.
  • Communication Skills – identifying what’s important to subordinates in their job, their team and their work relationships.
  • Conflict Resolution – the five negotiating styles and how they affect workplace relations.
  • Developing Effective Teams – the key elements of team-building.
  • Performance Management – setting and evaluating performance goals.
  • Planning and Time Management – characteristics of good plans and good objectives.
Health and Safety Phase
The Health and Safety phase of the program consists of a number of existing OFSWA training courses relating directly to health and safety in the workplace. These courses are delivered by OFSWA Consultant Trainers and must be completed to achieve accreditation.
