Mechanical Harvesting/Forestry Pit and Road Construction Equipment Operator Online Safety Training
Successful completion of this online course meets the classroom training requirements of the MTCU Mechanical Harvesting Equipment Operator and Forestry Pit & Road Construction Equipment Operator certification programs. The course examines how to recognize, assess and control health and safety related hazards associated with the operation of the following pieces of mechanical harvesting equipment: grapple skidder, feller buncher, cut-to-length processor, forwarder/transporter, delimber, slasher and chipper. The course also meets the classroom training requirements for operators of the following forestry pit and road construction equipment: hydraulic excavator, bulldozer, grader, front-end loader, haulage truck, fuel truck and service truck.

After successful completion of the course, participants will be able to understand the physical and mental requirements of the job and the working environment, recognize the hazards and describe practices for safe machine operation, including personal protective equipment, circle check, preventive maintenance, danger zones and work planning. This course is intended for mechanical harvesting, forestry pit or road construction equipment operators who have not yet completed the classroom portion of the mandatory certification training. The course is also a requirement for supervisors prior to supervising in a mechanical logging, forestry pit or road construction environment in a logging application.
