Duties, rights and responsibilities of workers, supervisors and employers
The training material for this half-day course is designed to teach participants about occupational health and safety law in Ontario. The course is designed for members of joint health and safety committees, health and safety representatives, supervisors and other interested workers and members of management.Throughout the course, participants will learn to use the "green book" and understand how the laws in it apply to forestry workplaces. Sector-specific case studies of health and safety incidents enable participants to practise finding specific parts of the legislation and connect them to the day-to-day duties and responsibilities of employers, supervisors and workers. Course participants will also learn: • The difference between an Act and a Regulation • The principle of the Internal Responsibility System on which the Act is based • The duties of the employer, supervisors and workers • The three basic rights of workers under the OH&S Act • The legal requirements for a health and safety representative and a joint health and safety committee • The concept of due diligence • The duties and powers of Ministry of Labour inspectors
