Throughout the course, participants will learn to use the "green book" and understand how the laws in it apply to forestry workplaces. Sector-specific case studies of health and safety incidents enable participants to practise finding specific parts of the legislation and connect them to the day-to-day duties and responsibilities of employers, supervisors and workers.

Course participants will also learn:

   •  The difference between an Act and a Regulation
   •  The principle of the Internal Responsibility System on which the Act is based
   •  The duties of the employer, supervisors and workers
   •  The three basic rights of workers under the OH&S Act
   •  The legal requirements for a health and safety representative and a joint health and safety committee
   •  The concept of due diligence
   •  The duties and powers of Ministry of Labour inspectors
