This training material reviews the knowledge and skills required by managers, supervisors and workers to control strain & sprain injury hazards in specific jobs and general work activities in forestry mills. After successful completion of the course, participants will be able to recognize and describe the common hazards for strain and sprain injuries in forestry mills, as well as the ergonomic control measures that can be used to prevent the potentially damaging effects on muscles, joints, nerves, ligaments and tendons of ongoing exposure to those hazards.
Although a sector-specific portion of the training material deals in detail with strain & sprain hazards and controls for four specific occupations in sawmills and veneer/plywood mills, the information can be applied to many other jobs where the same hazards arise.
The training material is supported by a Participant Manual that includes a sample Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) form and a Self-Guided Working Package for setting up an ergonomic assessment team in the workplace. Classroom content is supported by PowerPoint slides and separate videos for the sawmill- and veneer/plywood-specific portions of the course.
