MSD Prevention Resources
A three-part resource package for preventing musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) in Ontario workplaces is now available. The MSD Prevention Toolbox outlines MSD hazards, how to recognize jobs with MSD hazards, how to conduct an MSD risk assessment and how to identify and select MSD hazard controls. The other two components of the resource materials are an MSD Prevention Guideline that describes a recommended process for employers and workers to prevent MSDs, and a resource manual that contains information on implementing the process described in the Guideline.

Musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) is a term used for a number of injuries and disorders of the muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, etc. MSDs represent more than 40% of all lost-time compensation claims in Ontario.

These MSD prevention resources were developed by the members of the Occupational Health and Safety Council of Ontario (OHSCO), composed of the Ministry of Labour, the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board, the Institute for Work and Health and the province’s Health and Safety Associations, including OFSWA.

A half day training program, Ergonomic Injury Prevention, provides a step-by-step process for recognizing, assessing and controlling MSD-related hazards in forestry workplaces. For more information about this training and MSD prevention, contact your local Consultant Trainer or our Consultant Trainer / Ergonomist.
