Focus on Safety
Talking Safety (Individual Topics)
A Talking Safety session should last 10 to 15 minutes. You will want to keep the session short, on topic and to the point. To prepare to conduct a Talking Safety session, read the material carefully ahead of time, making notes of anything you might want to add.

Each Talking Safely topic has suggestions for demonstrations, so you might want to gather the necessary props for the demonstration. Each Talking Safety session is divided into three parts:

Why it’s important: This section gives a brief explanation of why this particular topic is important to the health and safety of forestry workers.

How to control the hazards: This section lists all of the hazards and the controls that can be put in place or are already in place in your workplace. Each point is bulleted so it’s easy to read and follow.

Show and tell: This section ties the whole presentation together and relates it to the specific health and safety policies and procedures that are already in place at your workplace.

Choose a location for the Talking Safety session where everyone can hear and see you. The talk site could also be near or around the tools or equipment you are talking about.
